Grading

Final grade is based on:

  1. First homework assignment: 5%
  2. Second homework assignment: 10%
  3. Third homework assignment: 10%
  4. Midterm quiz: 20%
  5. Term project: 25%
  6. Final exam: 30%

The letter grade will be determined at the end of the semester from a numerical grade N obtained from the following formula:

               N = 0.25 H + 0.20 M + 0.25 T +0.30 F

where H is the average grade on homework assignments, M is the grade for the midterm, T is the grade for the term project, and F is the grade for the final exam.  The H, M, T and F are numbers between 0 and 100.
From a distribution of N for the entire class, boundaries will be chosen to define letter grades.  For students near boundaries, other factors (such as effort, extra points for homework or exam, etc.) may be taken into account to determine the letter grade.
